Jake Murphy stepped on an IUD while serving hiscountry, and U.S. ArmySgt. Derek McConnell helped him safely get lifted off the ground. But as soon as Jake was airlifted, Derek found himself withthe same unfortunate fate.
He toostepped on an IUD. Both men lost their legs.
When they came home, each tried to get a service dog to help them throughout their day-to-day livesand struggles. Derek was to receive a beautiful German shepherd, Gabriel. But unfortunately he did not make it to the day they wereto meet.
Derek passed away, and although the heartbreak may still have beenthere, Jake got blessed with a surprise after struggling to find his own service dog.
Jake ended up meeting Gabriel. Theyhit it off, and now Gabriel isa sweet reminder of Jake’s fallen friend anda great help in everyday life.
4 Paws for Ability, agreat organization that pairs service dogs with children and veterans, brought Jake and Gabriel together.Without them, who knows how some of these war heroes would survive through their life struggles.
