You’re about to meet an inspiring pup namedJoel, a Cocker Spaniel who spent the majority of his life behind bars, repeatedly forced to breed as a puppy mill “father.”
In 2013, Joelwas finally rescued by the wonderful folks at the National Mill Dog Rescue. When Joel was first rescued, he was found in very poor health. Since hislong fur had neverbeen trimmed, his body was covered infilthy, heavy andmatted dreadlocks.
It’s an absolute miracle that hesurvived under these conditions.
As one of Joel’s rescuers holds back the tears, she explains the horror of puppy mills like the one in which Joel was found. She says those who pay big bucks for young “purebred” pups shouldknow that their parents may look and be treated a lot like Joel.

After getting his first grooming in years, the National Mill Dog Rescue set him up with a professional photoshoot, and he looks completely unrecognizable.
