Police Dog Goes Missing During Drill, 7 Days Later He Jumps On Owner To Lick Him

For a pet owner, there is nothing scarier than not knowing where your pet is and if they are safe.

Constable Mike Wakefield went through this terrible situation in 2015, when his police dog, Thames, went missing during a routine search and rescue drill.

Thames, a 4-year-old German shepherd, was then missing for 7 days. Which is a very long time for someone who is worried.

During that time, there were extensive searches, where everyone was searching for Thames, just hoping to find him.

Mike and rescue volunteer John McCann followed fresh tracks in Tararua Range west of Carterton for two days before they found Thames.

Sure enough, Mike spotted Thames and they were so happy to learn the dog was still alive and it good condition, all things considered.

Thames had lost a little bit of weight and had a sore foot, but after seeing a vet and getting some time off, Thames was then cleared to get back to work.

In the video below, you can see the heartwarming reunion between the dog and his handler! If you love reunion videos like this one, you’ll also enjoy this video of an English officer being reunited with his two canine partners.
